This one flew under the cracks and it shouldn’t have. Mason Marchment is just flat-out good. I’m not sure what else to tell you. The Dallas Stars are fringe contenders but they have gotten this one right. If Dallas hopes to be anything more than a first round exit, they need to create scoring below the first line. Marchment gives them just that chance to do so.
Marchment, 27, signed a four-year contract worth $18 million this past offseason following a breakout season in Florida. The haters said it was a fluke. They got it wrong. Yes, I know it’s only been three games but Dallas is undefeated and Marchment is a fire cracker.
I’m sorry but fluke talents don’t come out of the gates and do that. It just doesn’t happen. It’s five points for Marchment in three games thus far. Three goals and two assists. The dreadful second line of a year ago has life and it’s all because of Marchment. I just regret not making a bigger deal of Dallas adding Marchment and that’s on me. Sorry, we don’t have a Dallas Stars insider yet. However, I did make sure to note how embarrassing it was for Florida to bench him in the postseason last year.
Use your eyeballs. Guy can skate. He’s a prick to play against. Is tough. Has proven he can score goals. What exactly is everyone missing? Ok, he takes a bad penalty here and there. That’s not enough of a reason to not acknowledge the talent is there.
Ok, or don’t use your eyeballs. The numbers guys like Marchment too.
Even the corpse of Tyler Seguin has been brought back to life. Seguin’s ice time is way down but as long as the guy is winning faceoffs, Marchment and new hot shot rookie Wyatt Johnston has brought a new dynamic to the Stars. Seguin already has five points coming off a dreadful 49 points in 81 games a year ago.
If Marchment is somehow available in fantasy, go get him. Never forget, Kyle Dubas traded this guy to Florida in exchange for Denis Malgin. End of blog. Nothing more to add.
