Marvin Jones Has Big Goals For 2020

Every year I try to look for fantasy sleepers at the wide receiver position. Could Marvin Jones be that guy in 2020? The Lions wide out appears to be a player worth taking a flier on. Marvin Jones has big goals for himself. When I say big, it’s probably an understatement. Jones is determined to have a career season in 2020.

“I want to lead the league in — I want over 15 touchdowns,” Jones said, via MLive’s Kyle Meinke. “Forget 10, I’ve had 10 already. I want (15). I want 1,400 (yards). Just stuff like that that drives me and every time I step on that line — I’m going on Year 9 — but every time I step on that line, it just fuels me to be great.”

15 touchdowns would be a crazy outcome for Jones. That doesn’t mean it isn’t achievable. Since 2012, just two wide receivers have reeled in 15 touchdowns in a season. Dez Bryant in 2014 and Antonio Brown in 2018. Jones’ teammate, Kenny Golladay led the NFL in that category a year ago with 11.

That isn’t to say Jones can’t do it. The former 5th round pick out of Cal in 2012 scored 9 touchdowns a year ago. He scored 9 while missing three games of action. Add in the fact that Matthew Stafford missed most of the season and that number starts to look more attainable.

Jones, 30, is heading into a contract season for the Lions. He’s going to get plenty of targets with that defense and Kenny Golladay on the other side. The more you think about it, maybe Jones has a really big season even if he falls short of a 15 touchdown season. He did score 4 in one game against the Vikings last season so anything is possible.
