Marshon Lattimore Traded To Washington Commanders

Marshon Lattimore always appealed as a prime piece for the Saints to sell off if their freefall continued. And that is exactly what happened. New Orleans is trading the former Defensive Rookie of the Year to the Washington Commanders, who are in pole position to win the NFC East. With draft capital stocked up from their rebuilding years, Adam Peters picked a great time to strike. Ian Rapoport initially confirmed the deal on X:

While he’s not the same player that made four Pro Bowls in five years from 2017-2021, Lattimore still has plenty left in the tank at 28 years of age. The Ohio State product is a big addition for a Washington secondary that needed reinforcements. On top of that, the Commanders are paying him for the minimum over the rest of 2024, per Adam Schefter:

Schefter also reported that the full deal is Lattimore and a fifth-round pick to DC in exchange for a third, fourth, and a sixth-rounder NOLA gave up to acquire John Ridgeway in the offseason. In a sense, the trade deadline always boils down to this: do you want to give up more for a player so that your rivals don’t nab them instead? It’s exactly what the Ravens did when they picked up Diontae Johnson from the Panthers. In NFC terms, a team like Detroit could have absolutely jumped on this as well. Even maybe the Vikings too but that’s grasping at straws.

The Glow-Up Continues

What a year it is to be a Commanders fan. If you told them back in June that they would be 7-2 and buyers at the deadline they would probably ask if you were on drugs. Now, thanks in large part to rookie sensation Jayden Daniels, they have an electric offense and defense that should be catching up. If they make another move or two, these guys have a more than good chance of even reaching the NFC Championship game this Winter. Ever since Dan Snyder finally got the heck out of town, things have been looking up for them.

It’s a two-man race between Washington and the Eagles for the division and I honestly like the Commanders’ chances. They’re playing without fear and in Year One of the Daniels era they have nothing to lose. If Lattimore can get healthy and keep doing what he’s doing the second half of the season should be a thriller.

The Saints’ collapse is reaching new lows. After kicking Dennis Allen to the curb, they are now beginning to sell off some longtime pieces.
