Mark Stone Sounds Hungry To Defend Stanley Cup Title

Can the Vegas Golden Knights repeat as Stanley Cup champs? The roster remains largely intact outside of losing Reilly Smith because of the annoying flat cap. Damn, you, Gary Bettman! If you ask the VGK captain Mark Stone, he says he’s already itching to repeat as champs. He wants to lift lord Stanley again.

“It’s been a short summer but a great summer,” Stone told NHL.com’s Darrin Bauming and Amalie Benjamin. “I’d do anything to do this all over again next year, but I’m excited to get back again.”

“We are getting the itch to get back in the gym, getting the itch to get back on the ice,” Stone said. “Sometimes you think (a teammate) wants the time off, and then you get a month in, and you’re ready to get back. I’m ready to get back.”

By now we know the deal with Stone. Let’s just make sure he’s healthy for the playoffs. Everything else is gravy. Stone had back surgery last year and returned just in time for the playoffs. He also had back surgery the year before the people in the organization are more hopeful this one did the job. Stone used the same doctor that Jack Eichel did for his neck. Backs are always tricky but Stone looked great during the postseason racking up 11 goals and 13 assists over 22 games.

Stone, 31, has played just 80 regular season games over the last two years. Hopefully, his itch to return to the ice means he’s feeling healthy entering the 2023-24 NHL Season.
