The cat is out of the bag. Kyrie Irving doesn’t want to play in Boston. It doesn’t look like Al Horford wants to either although his reasons are probably more financial. The Celtics did manage to create a max cap spot for free agency but it doesn’t look anybody really wants to play in Boston as of now. Marcus Smart has a pretty logical recru
“We’ve got the Patriots, we’ve got the Bruins, we’ve got the Red Sox, we’ve got the Celtics. You name me another city that’s got 4 teams in different categories that’s all known for winning championships. It gets no better than that.”
This makes a lot of sense to me. The Red Sox are the premier baseball franchise as of now with 4 titles since 2004. The Patriots just win all the time. The Bruins just went to the Stanley Cup. The Celtics
The Celtics have some options. Nikola Vucevic, D’Angelo Russell, and Kemba Walker are some names that have been floated out there. None of which are Kyrie Irving but I guess it’s better than being the Knicks. Boston still has a nice young core with Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. Whether those two will turn into stars remains to be seen. Still, Boston needs to hit on a free agent this summer.
