Marco Reus Set To Leave Borussia Dortmund At End Of Season

German footballer Marco Reus is set to leave Borussia Dortmund at the end of the season after 12 seasons with the team, the German club announced Friday morning.

Reus has been with the club since 2012, arriving on a transfer from Borussia M’Gladbach, and has been hailed as a club legend. The German was also in the team’s youth squad before beginning his career elsewhere.

Throughout his time with BVB, Reus has won the German Cup twice and the German Supercup three times. Despite failing to win the Bundesliga or the Champions League, Reus was loyal to the black and yellow.

“I’m incredibly grateful for and proud of this special time at my club Borussia Dortmund. I have spent more than half of my life at this club and enjoyed every day, even though there have of course been difficult moments too,” Reus wrote in a statement. “I already know now that I will find it difficult to say goodbye at the end of the season.”

“And yet I’m happy that there is now clarity and that we can focus fully on the very important final games that we still have to play. We have a big objective in our sights that we all want to achieve together. To do so, we will need every single one of our unbelievable fans, to whom I would like to express my sincere thanks for their unbelievable support over the years.”

Dortmund are currently in the semi-final of the Champions League, up 1-0 on aggregate against Paris Saint-Germain, fighting for a spot in the UCL Final at Wembley. If Reus were to win the UCL in his last game as a member of BVB, it would be a fairy tale ending.

It is currently unconfirmed if Reus will join a new club or retire.

French striker Oliver Giroud is another recent example of a legend heading elsewhere. Sadly, unlike Giroud, Reus doesn’t have the accolades as the Frenchman does.
