Backlash is the first premium live event since the biggest Wrestlemania of all time. While there are only five matches on the card, four are championship matches with the other involving the dominant faction The Bloodline. With an anticipated exciting night in France, let’s get into my predictions for WWE Backlash 2024.
Newly crowned champion Damien Priest is the only one holding the Judgement Day together in Rhea Ripley’s absence. With Dominick Mysterio injured and out of action for months, along with repeated mistakes from JD McDonagh, Priest is keeping Judgement Day in check. Jey Uso is a worthy contender for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, but he has much left to experience before shooting straight for the top title on the brand. Uso will win a singles title at some point in his career, but Backlash is not his opportunity to do so.
PREDICTION: Damien Priest
Bayley just gained the title at Wrestlemania after her history with Damage CTRL. Giving opportunities for Naomi to reclaim the title has allowed Tiffany Stratton to get involved and make more of a name for herself at a higher level. There is also a likelihood of newly drafted Nia Jax getting involved in this match, but ultimately Bayley has worked hard to claim the Women’s Championship, and she isn’t letting go of it anytime soon.
PREDICTION: Bayley
Bianca Belair was the first overall draft pick for the 2024 draft, solidifying her impact in the WWE. Cargill is finding her footing, yet still has shown her dominance since her debut in the company. The two powerhouses work great as a tag team, and continue to show why they belong in this business. Damage CTRL was drafted to Raw, meaning there is now permanent distance between them and former leader Bayley. The Kabuki Warriors dropping their titles will allow Belair and Cargill to wreak havoc on the tag team division.
PREDICTION: Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill
Team RKO is slowly finding themselves as a tag team, especially after last night’s episode of the RKO show. They have shown they work well together, both on the mic and in the ring. The feud between them and the Bloodline will give them more momentum to inevitably go after the tag team titles. The Bloodline feud is still extending, especially in Roman Reigns’ absence. Tama Tonga has yet to show much of his abilities in the Bloodline, and while he will likely do well in the ring, there is still room for growth. With a potential return of vengeful Jimmy Uso, the Bloodline saga will continue for some more time.
PREDICTION: Randy Orton and Kevin Owens
It has been a two-year-long climb to the top for Cody Rhodes and after his monumental victory at Wrestlemania, he’s going to cling to that title for a while. AJ Styles is a hardworking individual who is a worthy opponent for the championship title. The two Georgia boys are going to put on a great match in Lyon, France, but it may not be time for a title change. This first-time match is a highly anticipated one; however, the American Nightmare fought too hard to lose the title so soon.
PREDICTION: Cody Rhodes
