How Should Major League Baseball Tackle The Trevor Bauer Problem?
Dodger manager Dave Roberts’ hands are tied. It’s tricky, frustrating, and most of all, terrifying. What do you do with a player who has a sexual assault accusation? Trevor Bauer is the man in question and he is slated to start Sunday’s game against the Washington Nationals.
A woman who goes by Ms. Hill came out against Bauer on June 30, stating that he sexually assaulted and abused her physically, ranging from April to May of this year. What evidently started as consensual took a turn for the worst for Ms. Hill. The woman filed a restraining order against Bauer after going to the hospital for her injuries.
Bauer likes to stir the pot and tell it like it is, and a lot of people disliked him before this situation unfolded. He previously harassed a college student online for months on Twitter, but this situation is obviously much more serious.
Although the case contains a lot of “he said, she said”, the accusation against Bauer is something that needs to be addressed. In my opinion, Bauer cannot start Sunday’s game. This is a serious matter that needs further investigation. If Major League Baseball has any dignity, they and Roberts will know what to do.
UPDATE
Major League Baseball placed Bauer on seven-day administrative leave. Pasadena Police is in the process of investigating him. Administrative leave does not mean a suspension, as he will continue to receive payment.
It is difficult to say what will become of Bauer once all the information comes out surrounding this case. Aroldis Chapman still has a job after serving a 30-game suspension for domestic battery against his girlfriend and Domingo German is also employed following an 81-game suspension for slapped his girlfriend while intoxicated.
