“They think it’s all over… It is now!” One of the most famous quotes in Soccer history as England’s Geoff Hurst bagged a fourth goal to hand England their one and only World Cup way back in 1966 over West Germany. However, you can easily reuse that quote for the big hockey debate of years past deciding who is better between Nathan MacKinnon and Connor McDavid. The world finally has its answer and its Mac over Mc.
Nathan MacKinnon went for nine points in four games and a plus-six as the Colorado Avalanche swept the St. Louis Blues in this year’s Stanley Cup Playoffs first round. Connor McDavid went for four points in the same number of games as his Edmonton Oilers were swept by the Winnipeg Jets. The so-called greatest player in the game also pulled out a minus 2 on the series and registered only one goal.

So let’s all stop having this conversation please! Connor McDavid is a nice regular-season player. His 105 points against a defensively weak North Division were fun to watch. Yet again though McDavid has failed to propel his team to playoff success after being embarrassed last season by the Chicago Blackhawks in the qualifying tournament. He’s a playoff choke artist at the absolute finest.
And before I have to listen to these Oilers fans tell me it wasn’t his fault and the team around him is weak, I don’t remember hearing that as an excuse during the regular season. For all you NBA fans the easiest way I can explain it (with a little help from Trey) is McDavid is like Paul George while MacKinnon is Kevin Durant. You want a clutch play you call MacKinnon. You want a nice regular season with little to no playoff performance McDavid’s your man.
One last thing, please don’t come at me with the fact the Avalanche are deeper than the Oilers. Both teams work under the same Salary Cap and I will not apologize for Joe Sakic being a phenomenal General Manager while Ken Holland couldn’t carry his jockstrap. I’m aware this will change for the Avs shortly and look forward to seeing what Sakic does. I won’t complain then either but for now its definitely Mac over Mc.
