Lou Merloni: WEEI Decides To NOT Renew His Contract

Did you ever notice when Trey gets into these wars, it always has truth serum attached to it? When I wrote my WEEI post on the actions of Dan Mennella, you will notice I made sure to include a note that the only employee at that company I respect is Lou Merloni. Dumb people do dumb things. WEEI has decided to not renew his contract.

“At the end of the year, my contract runs out so it will not be renewed and I will be off of this radio show,” Merloni said.

It appears that Merloni is leaning towards joining the booth to call radio games for the Sox. Merloni is a former Red Sox player and it’s obvious that the man would prefer just to talk baseball. However, are we sure this is the move? To stop doing radio so that you can then do radio when everyone under the age of 40 is watching the television version anyway?

I have offered Lou a job here at Vendetta. Time will tell if he accepts.

Getting back to WEEI, Merloni kinda spilled the tea on why it wasn’t exactly the best work environment.

“It’s hard waking up every day searching for a negative angle to take to start a discussion,” Merloni said.

like with the 2018 Red Sox, “there was nothing to talk about.”

“It’s not manufactured. It’s not acting, it’s nothing. It’s just, ‘What’s the conversation? Where’s it going to go? How do we get people involved?’” Merloni said.

If Lou wants to have full creative control, he will call me. Time will tell what he decides but as of right now there is no clear decision from Lou.

“We’ll see where it goes. Nothing’s etched in stone right now. But hopefully for me, I’ll be moving on, not on this show, but continue to do what I love and that’s just talking baseball.”

If I must, I would love to add that Audacy is now adding Rico Bosco in the hope that he bails them out of financial hell. Is that really the place for you, Lou? Come be the best version of yourself here.
