Rams Trade Van Jefferson To Falcons
The Los Angeles Rams have agreed to trade Van Jefferson to the Atlanta Falcons for a 2025 pick swap involving 6th- and 7th-round picks, NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport was among the first to break the news Tuesday.
This move doesn’t really come as a surprise as multiple reports indicated that Jefferson would be moved. It makes sense as Jefferson has seemingly lost his role in the receiver room with the emergence of pass-catchers like Puka Nacua and Tutu Atwell.
He saw no snaps in their loss against Eagles and it’s very clear he just no longer has a role with the Rams. A change of scenery is best for both parties but it still seems like Jefferson is getting the worse end.
He will now become the WR3 on a low-volume passing offense. He may see more playing time but it likely won’t lead to a lot more production.
For the Falcons, it’s a move I don’t hate. It’s a low-risk deal having to only give up a late Day 3 pick, so even if Jefferson never plays, they didn’t give up very much. But if the Falcons can even get 2021 Van Jefferson who caught 50 passes for 802 yards with six touchdowns, it turns out to be a huge success.
Overall, this isn’t really a trade that moves the needle in either direction. The Rams didn’t have room for Van Jefferson anymore and were able to secure some sort of draft capital, something they are seriously lacking for the next few years.
With the Falcons adding a solid WR3 who can hopefully give them some solid production, which isn’t likely, given the Falcons’ reliance on the run game. It doesn’t help that Desmond Ridder isn’t very good either.
I mean the Falcons still can’t use Kyle Pitts or Drake London. But I’m sure Van Jefferson of all people will be the one to break out. Yeah Right.
