Rams sign Tre’Davious White to one-year deal

Weeks after getting released by the Buffalo Bills, Tre’Davious White is signing with the Los Angeles Rams to a one-year deal that will be worth up to $10 million, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The deal is worth $8.5 million, per Schefter, though the additional incentives to earn the final $1.5 million are currently unknown at the time of this publishing.

White, a first-team All-Pro in 2019, spent his first six seasons with the Buffalo Bills, who took him No. 27 overall in the 2017 NFL Draft. Though he only appeared in four games last season and 10 combined over the last two seasons due to recovering from a torn ACL (suffered in 2021) followed by tearing his Achilles last season.

Over the last two seasons, he logged just 32 combined tackles–28 solo– with one tackle behind the line of scrimmage, eight pass breakups and two interceptions. He was named an All-Pro in 2019 and 2020, his third and fourth years in the league, respectively. He logged 58 combined tackles in 2019, but intercepted an NFL-most six passes with 17 pass deflections–one short of his career-high as a rookie–in 15 games; he had three interceptions and 11 pass deflections in 2020 (14 games).

This acquisition comes roughly two weeks after the Rams re-united with corner Darious Williams to a three-year deal after he spent his last two seasons with Jacksonville. The Rams’ current cornerback room also features Derion Kendrick and Cobie Durant.

If White, 29, has a fully healthy season, the Rams have at least quality defensive backs on the outside, which is something every NFL team needs. This is a good low-risk, high-reward acquisition after White was released by Buffalo earlier this month–along with Jordan Poyer and Mitch Morse.
