Los Angeles Rams 2022 Training Camp Preview

Your reigning, defending Super Bowl champions, the Los Angeles Rams, entered this off-season with little holes to fill and guys to keep. Re-signing Cooper Kupp was among the top priorities for this Rams team, and adding stars like Bobby Wagner to bolster this defense puts this Rams team right back in contention this upcoming season. The chase to become back-to-back Super Bowl champs starts in training camp, so let’s get into the training camp preview for the Los Angeles Rams.

3 Position Battles To Watch

#1) SS: Taylor Rapp vs. Nick Scott

Since being drafted in 2019, Taylor Rapp has seen most of the workload at SS for this Rams team, starting 32 out of his 41 games played in three seasons. He has played pretty well, recording 238 tackles and 7 INTs. However, with the way that Nick Scott looked in the postseason last year, I think there could be a battle for the starting SS position for the Rams in training camp this season. Iron sharpens iron, after all.

#2) RG: Bobby Evans vs. Tremayne Anchrum vs. Joe Noteboom

The Los Angeles Rams didn’t make the best decisions with their offensive line this off-season, most notably letting former Center Austin Blythe walk in free agency. I would think that current RG Austin Corbett would take that position, leaving a hole at RG for this team. Evans was taking first-team snaps during OTAs, so it appears he is in the driver’s seat for the starting job.

#3) Punter: Riley Dixon vs. Cameron Dicker

There are bigger position battles to watch out for, like Nickel CB or TE2 or even on the defensive line, but who doesn’t love a punting battle. Riley Dixon and Cameron Dicker are both new to this team as of this off-season, and are both quality punters in their own rights. With Hekker gone, this leaves the Rams with a hole to fill at P for the first time since 2012. In the words of the great Pat McAfee, both guys are definitely for the brand.

Breakout Player: Cam Akers

The boss Trey said it best, Cam Akers could help lead your fantasy team to a championship this season. Finally healthy after a torn Achilles last year, he can show the talent he has in an offense that should help him shine. Entering his third season in the NFL, this could really be the chance for Akers to break out and make a name for himself.

Rookie To Watch: Derion Kendrick, CB

No, the Los Angeles Rams did not have a very good draft class this past season. It’s hard to really nail a draft when you aren’t picking in the first 64 picks. However, I believe they found a diamond in the rough in Derion Kendrick in the sixth round. I was high on Kendrick coming out of Georgia. He’s quick with great route recognition, which should help him move into the Nickel position with ease. He also possesses great ball tracking skills, which always translate well at the next level. Look for Kendrick to earn a role on this team.
