As the NBA is set to resume shortly, Alex has done a really good job of going over offseason needs. Weirdly enough, the offseason isn’t too far away either. I’m going to take a deep dive on the LA Clippers offseason needs in 2020. The Clippers are one of the title favorites when the playoffs get going. When it comes to their offseason, things appear to be pretty straight forward.
The Clippers should have two goals heading into the offseason. Both are very simple. Re-sign Marcus Morris and Montrezl Harrell. That’s the entire list of things they need to accomplish. The crazy part is the virus probably helps them attain both of these much easier.
Let’s start with Morris. The Clips don’t own his bird rights which is a bit of a problem. However, LA can offer Morris 20 percent more than his 2019 salary. Would Morris accept a deal worth $18 million per year which is the max LA could offer? The virus gives the Clippers more of a leg up on those odds than previously.
The Clippers hold bird rights on Montrezl Harrell so they could pretty much match whatever. Harrell seems to be a bit of a mystery because it’s hard to gauge what his market might be. I love Harrell the player. LA has to be willing to do what it takes to keep him. Pay the tax and keep this team together.
The Clippers do not have a first round pick because of the Morris trade. They need Mfiondu Kabengele to take a step forward as their young building block. The Clippers offseason is so easy. Keep those two players and keep bringing the heat.
