LeBron James teams up with DraftKings for NFL picks
Current Los Angeles Lakers superstar forward LeBron James will be with DraftKings Sportsbook as a talent ambassador in a multi-year deal, where he will specialize in making football picks, the sportsbook announced Wednesday.
“Welcoming one of the most influential and greatest athletes of all time, LeBron James, to the DraftKings family is an absolute honor and privilege,” Jason Robins, DraftKings CEO and co-founder said, via release. “We look forward to working with a passionate sports fan who shares the same competitive mindset that echoes throughout the walls at DraftKings, while delivering exciting engagement opportunities to our customers and his loyal fanbase for years to come.”
James was known for sharing his NFL picks on his IG Live ahead of Sunday’s games. So him partnering with an official sportsbook to give his takes on the spreads, over-unders and props is a good gamble for both parties. Who knows, perhaps he can help win you–and me–some money along the way, as the NFL and CFB are two of the hardest betting markets to correct.
DraftKings Sportsbook is also the second-biggest sportsbook in North America, only behind Fanduel; BET MGM, Caesars, ESPN BET and Bet365 are among the most popular ‘books nationwide, among others.
James isn’t the first professional athlete to partner with a sportsbook; the Manning Family partnered with Caesars Sportsbook in 2021 while Wayne Gretzky and Edmonton Oilers star Connor McDavid partnered with BET MGM–the official sportsbook of the NHL–in 2022.
It’s no surprise that more athletes are teaming up with these sportsbooks, for bettor or worse (pun intended). Sports gambling is becoming a bigger, and stronger entity in society all over–from legalization to advertisements on TV to active usership.
It’s also reasonable timing since the Super Bowl–the biggest gambling event of the calendar year–is less than two weeks away … when you can expect James to give out his picks and predictions as the time approaches.
