Lane Kiffin Tells Auburn To Go Hire Deion Sanders?
Is the Lane Train turning the War Eagle down? As weird as that sentence sounds when you say it with no context, yes, there may be some credence to what I was previously stated. It’s no secret by now that Auburn wants to hire Lane Kiffin more than Chickster wants to go work for the Raiders. Oddly enough, in both instances, one side doesn’t love the other back clearly.
The current Ole Miss head coach recently spoke about the Auburn rumors. He says tell them to go hire Deion Sanders.
“I think he’d do great,” Kiffin said during his latest availability. “I think that’s a great name and they should hire him. Great recruiter, great name. This is a different world we’re in now. Recruiting has always been important, but now you have the portal, so you have kids…you can change a roster faster than you ever could before, and you can lose a roster faster than you ever could before. The ability to hire, like Deion, and have that name right away and portal people wanting to come play for him right away, you can flip a roster where before, realistically, it would take two to three years to truly turn a roster around.
“You can do it immediately. You see teams get depleted and just look completely different the next year. Like our team. Picture our team without the portal. Take those guys out of there and look what it looks like.”
Ok, fine. Maybe it’s a little clickbait but you’re here now, aren’t you? If you’re being honest with yourself, you had to go back and read the quote because you didn’t do it the first time. Who’s the real problem?
While you’re here, keep in mind that Sanders is in direct competition for the head job at Auburn. If there is any indication that Kiffin takes the job with the Tigers, does he word this response any different? Maybe, maybe not. If so, maybe something like “I can’t speak for Deion. He’s proven to be a damn good coach. He’s also building something special right now at a historic HBCU. Impossible for me to know his next move.”. Just saying. Food for thought.
