Kyrie Irving Says He’s Not An Asshole For Leadership Style

The Kyrie Irving saga continues. It saddens me because I love watching Kyrie Irving play. He is a certified hooper and can play the game really well. However, his path looks like he will be the first player in the NBA with CTE. Not really, but he does remind me a lot of Antonio Brown and the way he acts. He is already being plagued that he has mood swings. People were criticizing him for his quote below, provided by NBC NBA:

“I mean, it’s transparent. It’s out there. It’s glaring, in terms of the pieces that we need in order to be at that next level… we’ll worry about all the other stuff, in terms of moving pieces and everything else, as an organization down the line in the summer… but it’s pretty glaring we need one more piece or two more pieces.”

I kind of agree with Kyrie, but I don’t at the same time. The Nets signed DeAndre Jordan over the offseason and of course signed Kyrie. So this team is already better than it was last year, roster-wise. But this team wasn’t supposed to contend for a title, that was known before the season. Without Kevin Durant, no one was expecting them to do all that. However, the team could be better, but not because they need more pieces, they just need to execute better. Caris LeVert’s presence should help with that, and next year KD will be coming back so it will all help. Kyrie Irving defended his words and his leadership style provided by SNY:

“It’s a telltale sign of the career that I’ve had. Some of the moves that I’ve made individually, and then as well as coming to different environments and organizations. …It’s not like I’m an a****** yelling at everybody in the freaking locker room all the time and you hear all these stories.

“At the end of the day, my name… is in a lot of people’s mouths all the time and it is what it is. I’ve earned that respect in terms of how great I am as a player and there’s still more goals I want to accomplish in this league, and I can’t do it without improving an organization and winning a championship and that’s what it comes down to. So I’m going to continue to push and continue to demand greatness of myself and demand greatness out of my teammates, and we go from there.”

“If it’s harsh as a leader or it’s too much for anybody, you’re not in our locker room — stay the f*** out. It’s as simple as that.”

See, I didn’t have much problem with the Kyrie quote in the first place. All in all, the man wants to win. Whether if it’s his fault or not, he does want to win. Whenever Jimmy Butler calls out his teammates, people say the same thing. I think it takes a certain type of leader to be able to call out their teammates and know the repercussions that might come out of it. The main goal should be to win and Kyrie wants to do that and doesn’t care if you like how he does it or not.
