French superstar and World Cup winner Kylian Mbappe has confirmed his departure from Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the season on social media.
“So I wanted to announce to you all that it’s my last year at Paris Saint-Germain,” Mbappe said in the social media post. “I will not extend and the adventure will come to an end in a few weeks. I will play my last game at the Parc des Princes on Sunday.”
“It’s a lot of emotions, many years where I had the chance and the great honor to be a member of the biggest French club, one of the biggest in the world.”
The announcement came after the reports that Mbappe will join La Liga club Real Madrid next season.
With his departure now confirmed, PSG has lost three superstars in the past year including both Lionel Messi and Neymar.
Mbappe and PSG were recently eliminated in the semi-finals of the Champions League, losing on aggregate 0-2 to Borussia Dortmund. Dortmund is set to face off against his future club in the Champions League final after Madrid beat Bayern Munich in a wild second leg.
While winning the biggest trophy in the sport, Mbappe has only won the Ligue 1 title and French Cup, and his recent run in the UCL with PSG was the end. His move to Madrid brings the possibility of winning his first UCL while joining the likes of young stars Jude Bellingham and Vinicius Junior.
Mbappe isn’t the only Frenchman to leave their club in the past few weeks, as Olivier Giroud will reportedly move to Major League Soccer and join Los Angeles FC in the summer.
