I have stock in Dante Pettis and thus far I’ve been disappointed. Pettis is currently on my fantasy team in a keeper league setting and he’s given me next to nothing. For a player that averaged 17.3 yards per catch as a rookie, he’s provided basically nothing in year two. The former Washington product has 11 catches for 109 yards and two touchdowns this season. YAWN. Kyle Shanahan was not shy about his assessment on the 2nd year wide receiver.
“He’s had a number of opportunities,” Shanahan said, via Matt Barrows of TheAthletic.com. “And I’m one of the guys who believe in him the most. That’s why he’s here. He’s had his opportunities. The more he doesn’t take advantage of his opportunities, the less opportunities he gets.”
Pettis was terrible on Monday Night and had two ugly drops. In fairness, Kendrick Bourne blows too. I don’t know who’s worse. Pettis has potential and was taken in the 2nd round for a reason. Right now his hair is cooler than his performance. Marquise Goodwin continues to do nothing as well. He was a healthy scratch last week and failed to make a catch Monday Night against Seattle. He’s hurt all the time anyway.
Deebo Samuel has clearly jumped Pettis on the depth chart. Emmanuel Sanders has been great for San Francisco. However, when he left the game, it became the Deebo show. The former South Carolina star looks like the real deal. Samuel is coming off an 8 catch, 112-yard performance and has been steadily working his way into the offense all year. It looks like the 49ers have a star in Deebo Samuel. San Fran may have a bust with Dante Pettis. He still has time to turn it around but the coaching staff is turning on him.
