Kyle Kuzma Keeps Trending Towards Irrelevancy
I’m not sure you remember, but Kyle Kuzma at one time was thought of as the best Lakers young player. In the Anthony Davis-Lakers trade talks, Kuzma was thought of as untouchable for the Lakers and one of the most coveted pieces for the Pelicans. Fast-forward a few years and now, Brandon Ingram is way better than any Lakers piece in that trade, while Kuzma keeps trending towards being irrelevant. Even Josh Hart or Lonzo Ball might be better than Kuzma one of these days.
It’s not all Kuzma’s fault though, he played well next to LeBron, while Ingram did not. Hell, Kuzma maybe was better than Ingram at the time, but Ingram had so much more potential than Kuzma. Some speculate that Ingram just needed to get away from LeBron and there’s solid evidence behind that theory. Now, Kyle Kuzma is barely the 5th best scoring option on the Lakers. He’s barely a point ahead of KCP. Surely, as a power forward, he makes up for that with rebounds on the team? Not really. He’s 4th on the team for rebounds.
The problem with Kuzma is that he’s already peaked as an NBA player. What can Kyle Kuzma do to be a better NBA player? I’ll wait. There’s not a lot coming to you is there. It’s only a matter of time before Kuzma won’t be with the Lakers anymore. Whether they trade him or just let him walk in Free Agency. I firmly believe we’ve seen the best of Kyle Kuzma, it’s only downhill from here. The Lakers would be smart to get rid of Kuzma as soon as they can to get the most value for him.
