Kyle Filipowski Commits to Duke, Scheyer Gets First Recruit

Four-star Kyle Filipowski has committed to Duke. The 6’11” big man’s commitment is the first for coach-in-waiting Jon Scheyer.

Filipowski has risen up rankings for ESPN and 247Sports alike over the spring and summer, ranking 20th on the ESPN Top 100 list. Duke will be getting a stretch big that can shoot from deep and attack the rim. He averaged 13.0 points and 8.2 rebounds for Nike EYBL team New York Rens this summer while shooting 46.2% from three. He told ESPN this regarding his decision:

“At the end of the day, they just checked all of the boxes for me,” Filipowski told ESPN. “They are a national level team, my academics were very important to me, and I had a good feel for the environment and campus. Just being around that type of environment and having those relationships, I really feel like when I’m done with my time at Duke I’ll be the best version of myself, both on and off the court. I can just envision myself growing there with the people I’m surrounding myself with.”

Now that the first recruit is officially secured, Scheyer can focus his efforts on five-star wing Dariq Whitehead, who is expected to commit in the coming days, with many expecting Duke to be his landing spot.
