Kyle Dubas Is OUT As Leafs General Manager
Everything is on the table for the Leafs now. Kyle Dubas is officially OUT as general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs. It feels like major changes could take place this upcoming offseason in Toronto. Dubas was in need of a new contract and the organization has decided to move in a different direction.
Frank Seravalli of the Daily Faceoff had the official press release:
The future of Dubas remains really unclear now. Dubas, 37, stated previously that Toronto was his last stop. He had no interest in another job in any other city. Well, if he wants to keep working at the NHL level, that’s exactly what’s going to have to happen. Now that the Leafs pushed him out the door, maybe that opinion changes.
Dubas, of course, has been a punching bag for a long time. Jason Spezza was brought in to help around the front office. Scott has detailed all the mistakes Toronto has made in the past. Mostly crippling the team from a cap standpoint. The Kadri trade didn’t help matters either. Who knows what happens with this team if Kadri is never moved.
The Kyle Dubas era officially lasted five years and eight days. Toronto won just won playoff series under Dubas’ watch that came against Tampa Bay in the first round this year. After losing to Florida in five games in the second round, you knew that outcome was never going to be enough. Someone had to go. It’s a matter of who is next.
