Not too long ago, Kyle Allen was on top of the world. He looked like a realistic replacement for Cam Newton. Not just for this year, but for the long haul. Allen was the number one high school recruit in the country. What if he was just a late bloomer? We know now that isn’t the case. Kyle Allen has been exposed and shouldn’t be in the Panthers future plans as their long term starter.
Kyle Allen started off hot. Then the NFL got some tape on him and clearly figured him out. Since Week 8, Allen has a 8-10 TD to INT ratio. He’s also thrown for under 60 percent in 3 of the 6 games. To make matters worse, Allen ranks 3rd in the NFL in dropped interceptions. He’s had 9 picks that should have went the other way but were dropped. Allen has actually played worse than his numbers indicate. He’s actually been lucky and his numbers are still bad.
The entire Panthers team has been on a downward spiral. Carolina is 1-5 in that stretch. It has a lot to do with Allen coming back down to earth. I know the Panthers are super eager to move on from Can Newton. They probably should. However, they are foolish to think Allen can be the long term solution.
My guess is they probably don’t. Newish owner, David Tepper, has already fired Ron Rivera and it looks like more changes are coming. The good news is Carolina should know that Allen isn’t their guy now. It probably wouldn’t hurt to give Will Grier some snaps at the end of the season too in order to see what you might have. Either way, drafting a quarterback should be at the top of the to do list in Carolina.
