Who is the best shooter in the NBA? Steph Curry? Maybe Buddy Hield? What about Klay Thompson? What if the answer is Duncan Robinson? I know what you’re saying. “Who the flying f*ck is that”? You might want to find out sooner rather than later. Duncan Robinson is the NBA’s best kept secret and he can really ball.
Duncan Robinson was born in Maine and never really had any eyes on him. Robinson first attended D3 Williams College which was a non scholorship offer. It didn’t take long for people to realize that this was a D1 player. Of course, he’s in the NBA now. It’s an incredible story. After transferring to the University of Michigan rather quickly, Robinson earned the pedigree as a filthy shooter. Robinson earned his way into the starting lineup and was part of that Wolverines team that went to the National title game with Moritz Wagner. Robinson didn’t get drafted in 2018 after just being that overlooked white guy that can’t really do a ton. NBA teams should have done their homework.
Robinson has worked his way to a prominent role in Miami. He is a starting wing on one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference. Robinson has always been an elite shooter and the NBA is moving towards a player like him. Duncan is splashing 43.5 percent of his 3’s on the season which is as good as it gets. Robinson is also 94 percent from the free throw line which further exemplifies how well he can shoot the rock.
When Duncan Robinson takes a shot, you never feel like he’s going to miss. That’s a great feeling to have. He’s not just a great shooter. He’s also 6-foot-8 and provides length on the floor. He may not be transformational athletically, but having length helps. The former Michigan product is an important piece to have on the floor. He stretches the floor for everyone else and makes the game a track meet. If you can’t follow him through screens, he will drain the shot. It’s almost like having a more efficient, taller JJ Redick on the floor. Every team needs that guy. Oh, did I mention he’s under contract for 3 years for a grand total of $3 million? Miami nailed this one.
The Heat are exceeding expectations this season. Duncan Robinson is one of the biggest reasons why. Jimmy Butler is going to do his thing, but every star needs complementary pieces around him. Duncan Robinson has become the perfect chess piece in Miami and 90 percent of NBA fans have no idea who he is. Duncan Robinson is the best kept secret in the NBA.
