Kurtis Rourke 2025 NFL Draft Profile

Kurtis Rourke helped guide Indiana to a surprise college football playoff outing. Does that mean he has a legit NFL future? That’s what the 2025 NFL Draft Profile series is for so we can accurately project all of these guys to the next level.

This is the thing with Rourke. He almost took a Daniel Jones type of draft trajectory. No one cared about Jones at Duke. Then one day everyone hyped him up and it went way too far. Rourke won’t get picked in the first round but it feels like the exact same situation here but with a different style player.

Two components really stand out with Rourke that need to be talked about. Beyond the fact that he’s Canadian but actually was talented enough to play in the States, unlike Taylor Elgersma, who we talked about previously.

A: He’s a true pocket quarterback and a total zero in the rushing game. Has height (6-4 2/8) on his side but very much a throwback quarterback from 30 years ago. He’s in the pocket and going to sling it. Nothing else to his game.

The problem is for such a big guy I’ved noticed watching his games that he gets plenty of balls batted down at the line. It was a thing in the Notre Dame game. Not exactly careful with the ball either and a zero in the run game. He used to not be a zero in the run game but all the lower body stuff makes him a zero now. When it’s there for him, he will get the job done and make big throws.

B: The injury history probably can’t be ignored. The good news is that when Rourke missed time, his absence was noticeable at more than one school. Rourke didn’t throw at the Combine either, which kinda says a lot. Even after several months to recover, he still wasn’t healthy enough to compete. He played this entire season hurt, by the way, and played pretty well all things considered.

Rourke, 24, spent five seasons with Ohio where he had injury issues too. This past year at Indiana was probably the best representative of who he is. 29-5 TD to INT ratio in the Big 10 with over 69% completion, and 9.5 YPA is pretty good.

I have a 6th round grade on Kurtis Rourke, who has a bit more upside than his brother Nathan. He’s not nothing but clearly has limitations based on the overall skillset of his game. I think the hope here is that he can be the next Tanner McKee type of player to be a backup for someone.
