Kristaps Porzingis had a decision to make this Summer. He eventually opted into his contract and was traded to the Boston Celtics. Porzingis obviously had a say in the trade considering that he had to opt in to make it all happen.
On the latest episode of The Old Man and the Three featuring JJ Redick, Porzingis explained why he picked the Celtics as his next landing spot. The part where Porzingis talks about the Celtics is right at the beginning of the episode.
“It’s been great, honestly,” Porzingis said when reflecting on his early impressions of Boston with JJ Redick on the Old Man and The Three podcast. “The fans welcomed me with open arms here on day one. Joe [Mazzulla] has been great. Playing at TD Garden is special. What else can I ask for? Playing with these kind of guys, these caliber players, it’s just a perfect scenario.”
“Just the ability to win a championship, compete for a championship, that’s what excited me,” Porzingis told Redick. “That oppurtunity. When that was presented on the table, I didn’t think too much about it. I knew my game would fit well with JT and JB and the guys that were here. I was just hoping that because of the trade deadline and when it was coming close, it was like last moment and I didn’t know what was going to happen. When it came true, I was really happy.”
“I wanted to possibly do something big,” Porzingis said. “Everybody loves a winner, so, I want to win.”
There you have it. Porzingis wanted to join a winner and hopefully help the Celtics clinch Banner 18.
I also want to add that Redick has been in some controversy lately.
