Kirk Cousins must be a huge fan of Ivan Drago. The Minnesota Vikings quarterback doesn’t sound too concerned about contracting Covid-19. Cousins was on the Ringer podcast 10 Questions With Kyle Brandt when the following discussion began.

Kyle Brandt asked Cousins about his concern level of the virus on a scale of 1-10, as Brandt said, “If 1 is the person who says , ‘Masks are stupid, you’re all a bunch of lemmings’ and 10 is, ‘I’m not leaving my master bathroom for the next 10 years,’ where do you land?” Kirk Cousins had the following response.

I’m not going to call anybody stupid for the trouble it could get me in. But I’m about a .000001.

Brandt then asked Cousins to expand upon his answer and give his reasoning, to which Kirk Cousins responded:

Again I want to respect what other people’s concerns are. But for me personally if you’re just talking “No one else can get the virus, what is your concern if you could get it?” I would say “I’m going to go about my daily life, if I get it I’m gonna ride it out I’m gonna let nature do it’s course. Survival of the fittest kind of approach and just say “If it knocks me out it knocks me out.” Umm I’m gonna be okay, even if I die, If I die I die I kind of have peace about that. So that’s really where I fall on it. My opinion on wearing a mask is really about being respectful of other people, it really has nothing to do with my personal thoughts.

The one thing I’ll say is, I’m glad Kirk Cousins isn’t one of “those people” who’ll fight all day to not wear a mask. He can have his preference but he’ll wear a mask because he respects everyone else’s wish and the concerns of people around him. If it only affected him, it wouldn’t be a big deal.

However, people with the same approach about not caring and then refusing to respect people’s wishes are the reason that Covid-19 has become as extreme as it is.
