Kirby Smart: Bill Belichick Likes Big Butts

Bill Belichick likes big butts and he cannot lie. I mean… nevermind (insert emoji of your choosing).

I didn’t get to see this live but it seems as though the Georgia Pro Day was a must see event. Kirby Smart was putting on a coaching clinic and giving away Belichick’s secrets all at the same time. I’m not quite sure if this is a good scouting technique or not but Smart essentially says that Belichick likes defensive lineman that have a big ass.

“They get where the 40-yard dash — ya’ll seen those guys with the tights on? — they got behind ‘em,” he said. “I was like, ‘Why are we here? We can’t time the finish.’ He was like, ‘No, Bill likes to look and see how big their ass is when they into their 40-yard stance, because he wants to sign the biggest ass defensive lineman he can sign. He said, because those backers want to line up behind these guys, and they want to be protected by them.”

Maybe it’s not the worst technique off all time? I’ve been a notorious Belichick hater in terms of his draft picks. When you factor in quirks like this, maybe it explains why he’s had so many misses on draft day.

Then again, his defensive line hit rate has actually been probably his best position of drafting. He’s got some good ones along the defensive line such as Vince Wilfork, Ty Warren, and Christian Barmore. There were two notable misses including Malcolm Brown and Dominique Easley. The Easley one now a curious pick because he doesn’t even have a big donk to him. Plus, Easley had injury concerns.
