ESPN is really taking the sledgehammer out today. Another member of the ESPN Radio crew is gone. Max Kellerman has been fired. Radio host Keyshawn Johnson will join him on that list. The only difference is it appears that Johnson has a much more fascinating future waiting for him.
“ESPN has let go Max Kellerman and Keyshawn Johnson, The Post has learned.”
“The news isn’t all bad for Johnson as only a year ago, he signed a five-year deal in the neighborhood of $18 million – and he will be able to collect all of it.”
“Johnson also may become a top candidate to replace Shannon Sharpe as Skip Bayless’ debater on FS1’s “Undisputed.””
“He already lives in Los Angeles, where the show is filmed.”
Now that’s spicy. Could Keyshawn really replace Shannon Sharpe after he left Fox Sports? It sounds like the Post has some insight that Keyshawn could land on his feet rather quickly with Fox. It also should be mentioned that Keyshawn was the first overall pick by the Jets in 1996. If he wanted to keep doing radio, I’m sure WFAN or one of those stations would love to have him. However, given that Keyshawn lives in LA probably rules that scenario out. Of course, Keyshawn played his college ball at USC so that part is no surprise.
The other part is this is it sounds like Keyshawn was already under contract for a lot of money with multiple years remaining. Why go to work if you don’t have to? Maybe pull a real Kliff Kingsbury and take your talents to Thailand?
