Kevin Stefanksi Wants ‘Best Version’ Of Deshaun Watson in 2024

Many people are calling the trade that brought Deshaun Watson to the Cleveland Browns one of the worst in NFL history.

If there is any chance of that thought being removed, it has to come this season. Watson has dealt with suspensions and injuries during his time in Cleveland. Still, now with the legal issues and shoulder recovery behind him, we may finally see Watson finding his old form. Head Coach Kevin Stefanski is counting on it.

Kevin Stefanski appeared on The Rich Eisen Show this week, and he believes that we may see the old Watson this season.

Full quote via NFL.com:

“We always talk about how we want the best version of ourselves. I want the best version of Deshaun,” Stefanski told Eisen. “He is constantly getting better. I see so many of the veterans, Rich as you know, every single year you challenge them to get better. Even the guys who are at the height of their craft. Look at Myles Garrett, who is coming off being Defensive Player of the Year. He will be challenged by both of us, and I know he does this to himself, he needs to get better and there are things he can do to get better.

“I know Deshaun is in the same boat, he wants to be better, he wants to play better, every single game, every single year. … I’m excited for where he is right this minute with plenty of work to do. I know he’s going to continue to get better and get healthy. But I’m excited about Deshaun.”

While I think the ship might have sailed on seeing Deshaun Watson finding his old form from when he was a budding superstar in Houston, Kevin Stefanski is holding out hope. I mean, of course he is.

What is he supposed to say? “Yeah, we think Watson might be washed for good. That sucks.” Of course the HC of the team is going to back his guy. But if this season doesn’t work out, there must be questions about Watson’s future with the Browns long-term.
