Why Kenny Pickett Isn’t A Wise Investment In Fantasy In 2022

Heading into the 2022 NFL Draft, questions swirled around many of the quarterbacks in this year’s draft class. Who would go number one? Just how many quarterbacks would we see go in the first round? Who is the first one off the board? Well, we got answers to all those, and many more. The talk after this draft class was Kenny Pickett, who was the first quarterback of the board at 20th overall and was the only QB drafted in the first round. Not only that, there wasn’t another QB taken until round three. With Fantasy Football season around the corner, should you consider Kenny Pickett for your team?

I can see the appeal. He can run pretty well, has a gunslinger mentality at times, and can be an accurate passer when he wants to me. Pair Pickett with the new weapons he has on this offense plus a defense that will finally be healthy again in 2022 and it should be a recipe for success, right?

I don’t think so. I don’t see a ton of value in Kenny Pickett, at least in 2022. If you are in a dynasty league? I would 100% find a way to get Pickett on my team. But for this upcoming year, there are just a lot of variables that I don’t love. First, we don’t even know who is starting at quarterback for this team in week one. Say what you will about Mitch Trubisky, but there is a universe where he could realistically win the week one starting job. So you can’t guarantee he sees the field early, which I think is important. Next, even if he does start week one, there are not a lot of rookies who just walk into the league and excel. It takes time. Moreso, this is a run-first offense, especially with a talent like Najee Harris in the backfield. He isn’t going to throw the ball more than 30-35 times a game. Lastly, the core of this offense is young. I mean, very young. It can work! Look at Burrow and his guys in Cincinnati. But those guys are better (right now) than the guys in Pittsburgh.

If you seek out Kenny Pickett in fantasy this year, my hat is off to you. You are a better man than I am, I couldn’t do it. Are you confident he is going to bring you value this year? As a known Steelers fan, I hope I am wrong. But I have four eyes and I can see that this offense has a real chance to struggle this year through the air, no matter who is playing at quarterback. Pickett should be coveted in dynasty leagues and nothing more.
