Getting in the Ring? Kendrick Perkins Would Fight Draymond Green

In an appearance on the Road Trippin’ podcast, ESPN NBA analyst Kendrick Perkins said that if he had to get in the ring with any person right now, he’d choose the Golden State Warriors’ swiss army knife Draymond Green.

“If I had to get in the ring and really put these paws on somebody, it would be Draymond Green. But I really think he don’t want that smoke, and history tells me he really don’t want that smoke.”

Perkins, now retired, can be seen regularly on any number of ESPN’s programming throughout the day, including Get Up and First Take. He is unabashed in his opinions, so it doesn’t come as a shock that the former Celtic was so forward in his response.

But this isn’t the first time that Perkins and Green have gotten into a spat. In the 2018 NBA Finals, Green notably mocked the former Cavalier with a cheerleading dance. Just last year, the ESPN analyst responded to Green’s comments concerning Charles Barkley being “unqualified” to talk about basketball. The most recent beef between the pair came when the Warriors star mocked Perkins on Twitter after the United States defeated France in the gold medal game of the 2020 Olympics.

The 36-year-old spent 16 years in the NBA, winning one title with Boston in 2008. During the 2010-11 season, Perkins was traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder, where he spent five seasons. He ended his career as a journeyman, having moved from the Thunder to the Cavs, then to the Pelicans and back with Cleveland one last time over the span of four seasons. Perkins was on the Cavs team that lost to the Warriors in the 2015 and 2018 NBA Finals.

Green has yet to respond to Perkins’ comments, but a potential celebrity boxing match could be brewing. You never know how long professional players hold on to an insult or attack, just look at Michael Jordan.
