Georgia has better players than everyone else but does that apply to their punt returner? Is their return man good enough to make an impact at the NFL level? Kearis Jackson is the topic for today so let’s dive right into his 2023 NFL Draft Profile!
As stated earlier, Jackson handled punt and kick return duties for Georgia. Is that alone enough to get drafted? Probably not. The only problem is outside of that, the production here is really limited. Jackson had 21 receptions for 320 yards and no scores in 2022. His best year came in 2020 where he notched 514 yards and three scores.
Jackson is for sure on the smaller side (5-foot-11, 196). He’s also not as big of a lightning rod as many expected him to be. The pure speed (4.55) isn’t overwhelming. I have more stuff from the Combine for Jackson here. Might get the job done but no wow factor. Former 4-star recruit and we know talent exists. It just might be a little overstated for some of the other horses coming from Georgia. The lack of top end speed certainly hurts his case.
The good news is Jackson is tough. Anyone that’s watched Georgia knows he has no issues blocking when needed. Not the twitchiness route runner but looks smooth when doing it. For a smaller receiver, he’s actually pretty good at the contested catch stuff too.
With Kearis Jackson, you’re probably looking at a practice squad guy that needs to show he can handle regular receiving duties for a team. Someone that can be that underneath slot guy to pick up crucial yardage. Right now it’s unproven but not impossible he can fill that void down the road.
