Kayvon Thibodeaux unphased by Jeff Saturday Comments

In an NFL week that has been filled with drama and never-ending story after story. Rookie star pass rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux has found himself at the center of attention, at least in the eyes of Jeff Saturday and the Colts.

During the game, there was a play in which Thibodeaux sacked Nick Foles. It was a hard hit and immediately after anyone watching could tell that Foles was in serious pain. Despite this though, Thibodeaux proceeds to “make snow angels” while Foles was writhing in pain next to him.

Now in this particular situation, I don’t really have a problem. Football is a very emotionally charged and violent game and it’s impossible to expect players to not react as such. It’s clear that Thibodeaux in this case didn’t immediately see Foles and wanted to celebrate a sack. Totally fine with that, and even know it certainly doesn’t look good, it can be explained away.

However, where I and many other people had an issue was with what he did on the sideline after it was clear Foles was hurt. Once seeing that Foles was injured, Thibodeaux looked towards the crowd and made a motion as if he was going to sleep. A move clearly directed at the injured Foles who had looked as if he was unconscious.

I can get him not immediately relaxing Foles was hurt when doing his initial celebration. However, the going-to-sleep motion was very clearly out of line and obviously ticked off COlts HC Jeff Saturday and many fans around the League.

Saturday voiced his displeasure with not only Thibodeaux, calling the move “trash”. But also was disappointed in the fact that non of his players came to Foles’ aid while it all was happening. Colts center Ryan Kelly also voiced his displeasure by saying that Thibodeaux’s response was “horseshit.”

But despite the uproar from players and social media, Kayvon Thibodeaux doesn’t seem to be phased at all. And even fired back at Colts interim HC Jeff Saturday.

“I don’t know who he is,” “Anybody who comments on it, unless I know who they are, it doesn’t really affect me.”

He further defended his actions by saying.

“What am I supposed to do now? Every time I sack a quarterback, stop and look and help him up? You don’t play the game for anybody to get injured, but I play defense,” . “They brought me here to be a savage and take over the game and to impact the game. We preach that impacting the game is affecting the quarterback. That’s what I’m here to do.”

Well no Kayvon, Nobody is saying you need to treat the QB like a princess. But maybe when a guy is writhing in pain on the ground as a result of a hit you delivered, don’t openly mock him and make fun of the fact he may be unconscious.

Thibodeaux has some issues regarding his character which is why many people believe he fell to the Giants at the 4th pick. But maybe we are now starting to see these character issues and what it entails. Its never good to make enemies within the NFL and openly mocking an injured player is a surefire way to do that.

Especially when you are doing it to a player and person as respected as Nick Foles. I’m sure Kayvon wasn’t actually wishing for Foles to be Injured. But sports and being an athlete is all about optics and how the public perceives things. And this whole situation is one that just simply puts him in a bad light.

Now listen Thibodeaux is still a 22-year-old kid and has a lot to learn. But it would probably do him good if a veteran on that Giants team went and educated him on some of the dos and don’t regarding the league. It’s clear that he will be a force in this league for years to come, but I’m a believer in Karma and right now Thibodeaux has a lot of it coming his way. And not in a good way.
