Kawhi Leonard Is The Unquestioned Best Player In The NBA

Did anybody have a better year than Kawhi Leonard? Kawhi told Gregg Popovich to go f*ck himself. He was then sent to Siberia (AKA Toronto) a place he had no interest in playing. The Spurs thought they were doing Kawhi dirty. Turns out he took it in stride and won a championship anyway. Kawhi hit free agency and had teams fawning over him. He then tricked LeBron and the Lakers into thinking he might join them. Instead, he gave LeBron the finger and will play in the same building with the Clippers. To put the cherry on top, he recruited Paul George to come with him. The same guy that told LeBron no the offseason before. Can we just acknowledge the obvious? Kawhi Leonard is on top of the world and is the unquestioned best player in the NBA.

It’s not close either. Kawhi wears the crown as of today. With Kevin Durant on the shelf with the Achilles injury, he’s not in the discussion. Neither is LeBron James. 53 percent of teams in the NBA make the playoffs. LeBron chose to go to the Lakers and couldn’t even get into the dance. That’s embarrassing. He’s not even close to the discussion. Kawhi Leonard just gave the Toronto Raptors their first NBA Championship. A team that was stuck in the mud with cancerous DeMar DeRozan. A franchise that leaned on Fred Van Vleet as their second best player on a championship team. A team that will go down in the history books as the only one to ever beat the Durant Warriors in a postseason series. Sure, maybe it deserves an asterisk because of the injuries to Durant and Klay Thompson. I think that’s fair. However, if you’re not first, you’re last. Kawhi Leonard was the best player on a team that was first.

Leonard didn’t just win a title with the Raptors, he went on one of the best postseason runs ever. This past postseason, Leonard averaged over 30 points per game on 49 percent shooting. Leonard also had the heroic last shot against the 76ers in Game 7. That play will go down in infamy.

It was one of the greatest postseason runs ever that capped off an unlikely champion. IF healthy, the Clippers will run the table as the next great NBA dynasty. They have the potential too. It’s not out of the question that the Clippers take the next 3 titles. Yes, they’re that good. They have star power in Leonard in George. They also have the best bench tandem with Lou Williams and Montrezl Harrell. Kawhi Leonard is on top of the world. He’s the best current player in the NBA and it’s not close.
