Juventus To Leave Super League Project

Juventus has begun the procedure of exiting the Super League project, according to a statement on the club’s website.

“Following such discussions, and given the existing discrepancies on the interpretation of the relevant contractual terms applicable to the Super League Project, Juventus confirms that it has initiated the procedure to exit,” the club said.

Juventus is one of three teams remaining in the Super League project, joined by Barcelona and Real Madrid. The two Spanish clubs would have to authorize Juventus’ exit for it to be official.

The Serie A side said the club has made contact with Barcelona and Real Madrid and is having discussions with them about exiting the project.

Juventus was one of the 12 founding members of the European Super League in 2021. The Super League was meant to be a league where elite teams from all across Europe would compete against one another in a league format.

Big teams from England, Spain and Italy were involved with the initial proposal. The founding members from England consisted of Manchester City, Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham. Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid were going to represent Spain. AC Milan, Inter Milan and, of course, Juventus were the teams set to join from Italy.

However, the proposal quickly fell apart. Fans and players from around the world voiced their disapproval, and fans from clubs involved with the Super League protested the decision to join the league.

The league collapsed within 48 hours after every team except for Juventus, Barcelona and Real Madrid pulled out due to the pressure.

Although the Super League proposal is technically still alive, it is basically dead. Now that Juventus is set to pull out of the Super League, the only two remaining members will be Barcelona and Real Madrid.
