Julio Urias arrested, faces felony domestic violence charges

**TRIGGER WARNING**

Los Angeles Dodgers left-handed starter Julio Urias was arrested and charged with felony domestic charges Sunday night, ESPN MLB insider Jeff Passan reported Monday.

According to Passan, he was booked late Sunday night and was released early Monday on a $50,000 bond. He did not travel with the team and could be placed on administrative leave by MLB, which has not occurred at the time of this writing.

The Dodgers released the following statement over social media early Monday afternoon.

“We are aware of an incident involving Julio Urías. While we attempt to learn all the facts, he will not be traveling with the team. The organization has no further comment at this time.”

This is not the first time that Urias, 27, has been arrested, either. He was arrested in 2019 after arguing and allegedly shoving a female companion to the ground and was placed on administrative leave–receiving a 20-game suspension by MLB. According to TMZ, the victim denied any physical altercation, though the cops made the arrest based on multiple eyewitnesses, who were “adamant” they saw Urias push the woman.

A total of 19 players have been suspended by MLB under its domestic violence policy since it was created in 2015, though no player has been suspended twice for it. The longest suspension was Trevor Bauer in 2022, who got suspended for two whole seasons until it was eventually reduced to 194 games. Bauer has not pitched in MLB since.

In all likelihood, Urias will be suspended for the rest of the regular season plus the postseason–and perhaps additional time next season (Urias is a free agent this offseason).

The full details of the situation have yet to be released, but we hope the victim plus others connected to the situation are okay and well.

This is a developing story. Stay tuned for updates.
