Hi. Trey here. I know I’m late with this one, but my team has zero competitive stamina, so I’m going to mix in some of these offseason retirement posts between the rest of the draft profiles I’m continuing to work on. In case you missed it, future Hall of Fame receiver Julio Jones has finally announced his retirement.
The video announcement came on a social media app called ‘Squad’, which I’ve never heard of before.
“Today, I’m announcing my retirement,” Jones said to begin his announcement. “Started when I was 8 years old, just a kid from Foley, Alabama. It was an amazing ride.”
“I’m making this announcement today because of the city of Atlanta. Thank you, man, I appreciate y’all. It’s nothing but love. I’m doing this on 404 day,” Jones said, referencing the unofficial April 4 holiday in Atlanta. “It was a hell of a ride. I also want to thank the other ball clubs out there, as well, the organizations. Tennessee, thank you for the opportunity. Tampa Bay, thank you for the opportunity. Eagles, thank you for the opportunity. But this one’s for the city, man. I appreciate y’all.”
Jones, 36, finishes his career with 914 receptions for 13,703 yards and 66 touchdowns. While Atlanta never won a Super Bowl with Julio (thanks in large part to choking the 28-3 game away against New England), the former sixth overall in the 2011 NFL Draft was a home run pick by the Falcons and a no-doubt future Hall of Famer.
Congrats on a hell of a career, Julio, and thank you for all of the fantasy points along the way.
