Julian Edelman Retires From The NFL After Failed Physical
Julian Edelman has played his last game in the NFL. Edelman failed a physical today which prompted the Patriots to release him. Shortly after, Edelman called it quits. The former Kent State product has officially retired from the NFL.
He posted a video on social media to confirm his retirement. A sad day for Patriot fans everywhere.
Edelman, 34, was originally drafted by the Patriots in the 7th round of the 2009 NFL Draft. Edelman will go down as one of the best 7th round picks of all-time. Edelman will retire second all-time in receptions (620) only behind Wes Welker in franchise history. He’s also fourth in franchise history behind Welker, Stanley Morgan, and Rob Gronkowski.
The Patriots have retooled their wide receiver room this offseason. New England signed Nelson Agholor and then gave Kendrick Bourne a hefty set of cash too. New England didn’t stop there. Jonnu Smith and Hunter Henry were both added this offseason. Edelman became a bit expandable as weird as that is to say. Especially given where Edelman is at this stage of his career.
Injuries have just caught up to Edelman at this point. The former Kent State quarterback only played six games this past year. His knees have just given out on him and has been struggling to get healthy this offseason. It’s a move that we probably should have saw coming.
Three time champ, Super Bowl MVP, and forever a legend in Boston.
