Jrue Holiday Belongs In The Hall Of Fame

Jrue Holiday is one of the true steady eddies in the NBA today. In fact, his career fits in perfectly with that term. One of the best defensive guards in the league, a true hustle type of team player, and routinely averages scoring in the teens and even into the low twenties. His points per game took a dip in 2023-2024 but that’s because he was a third or fourth option on the best team in the league. He was the missing piece for a Boston Celtics team that simply dominated the NBA. They won the argument of who’s the best team since the Warriors dynasty. With all that being said, there’s no more debating. Holiday is a bonafide Hall of Famer after looking at his resume.

In fifteen seasons, Holiday has earned six All-Defense selections, two All-Star appearances, and two championships. Three of those six All-Defense nods were for the first team. Can anyone lead me to another player that has those types of accolades that are not honored in Springfield, Massachusetts? His reputation is a stout defensive guard who can make life difficult for any ball handler. He also chips in routinely with scoring and shooting as he is a career 37.1 percent three point shooter. More than anything this is an indictment on the Milwaukee Bucks who singlehandedly aided their biggest threat to winning a championship. How could they not have predicted Holiday could go anywhere else after dealing him for Damian Lillard? It’s one of the ugliest hindsight moments in recent NBA history.

Two Times The Charm

I do not know many players who have won an NBA Championship and made an All-Defense team in the same season with two different teams that are off the ballot. I’d even venture that Holiday has a better resume than someone like Andre Iguodala even though he has more rings and a Finals MVP. The former UCLA guard is a consummate professional and impacts winning very tangibly. When the Celtics run it back it would not surprise me at all to see them become even better. If they can add the right supporting pieces in the draft or free agency we might actually be in trouble for a dynasty. And it’s players like Holiday that make it possible. Tatum and Brown may grab all the headlines but Kung fu Jrue helps make that possible.

I think after last night, there should be no argument. Jrue Holiday is a Hall of Famer. He has a chance to one day catch 18,000 career points and even 8,000 assists. Just give him flowers for an excellent career.
