Jordan Travis convinced D.J. Uiagalelei to commit to Florida State

Buckle up ladies and gentlemen, the transfer portal is heating up. More and more quarterbacks are committing to their new schools day by day and D.J. Uiagalelei is one of them. The former Oregon State and Clemson quarterback is taking a trip across the country to join the Seminoles. But there might’ve been a reason why the junior QB chose FSU.

After Florida State was left out of the playoffs shockingly and then dismantled by the Georgia Bulldogs, FSU fans haven’t had much to cheer about. But no fear DJ Uiagalelei is here!

After Jordan Travis announced his departure from the school, the Seminoles were without a star quarterback. With the transfer portal being loaded with quarterbacks, Florida State looked to avenge the loss of Travis with a new QB, but not without a little help from Travis himself, according to ESPN College Football insider Pete Thamel.

“He told me that Coach Norvell and [quarterbacks coach Tony] Tokarz are great coaches and coach you hard and will develop you,” Uiagalelei said, according to Thamel. “He also said that outside football, they really cared about him as a person.”

Many quarterbacks have chosen to take advantage of the transfer portal, especially this season, including names like Dillon Gabriel, Dante Moore and Riley Leonard. Even Washington State’s very own Cameron Ward, who was regarded as one of the top transfer portal quarterbacks in the country entered in but elected to enter the NFL draft.

Uiagalelei, on the other hand, had his sights locked in on the former Seminoles the whole time.

“That’s where I wanted to go the whole time,” he said. “I didn’t talk to many other programs. For the most part, I was locked in at Florida State. I appreciated them throughout the whole process. I wanted to be a Seminole, I wanted to be part of the program. I’m just blessed that Coach Norvell wanted to take me. I can’t wait to get there and get to work.”
