K.J. Jefferson announces commitment to UCF
Another day, another quarterback out of the transfer portal. The 20th-ranked quarterback and former Arkansas Razorbacks dual threat commander-in-chief, K.J. Jefferson, officially announced his commitment to UCF Monday.
Jefferson is heading east for his final year of eligibility in college, joining the former self-proclaimed national champions and head coach Gus Malzahn.
Back in Feb. of 2021, Malzahn joined the Knights after an illustrious career with the Auburn Tigers. A shocking move to say the least, but Malzahn has had a lengthy career of success, and he has continued that at UCF. In his first three seasons with the Knights, Malzahn has secured a record of 24-16. Now with an experienced quarterback like Jefferson, UCF could be back to scoring new heights in 2024.
Jefferson was ranked as one of the top quarterbacks in a chaotic transfer portal this season. Although he’s had some very successful seasons with the Razorbacks, Jefferson wasn’t given as much attention as other encouraging QB prospects in college football. The Mississippi product was ranked below guys like Kyle McCord, Riley Leonard ane Will Howard in the portal, according to On3 Sports rankings.
Last season, under first-year offensive coordinator Dan Enos, Jefferson saw the worst year of his college career. He tallied 19 passing touchdowns and eight interceptions with a 64.2 completion percentage; the dual-threat QB tacked on nearly 500 rushing yards and two touchdowns on the ground.
Now, with a new offense surrounding him, Jefferson will be looking to improve his draft stock at the University of Central Florida.
