Jonathan Allen Strongly Believes In Sam Howell For The Future
The Washington Commanders are coming off a nice win in Week 9 against the struggling New England Patriots, and defensive tackle Jonathan Allen couldn’t be happier.
Two weeks ago, Allen expressed his valid frustrations towards the Commanders organization after their 14-7 loss to the New York Giants. After registering 3 tackles and a tackle for loss, Allen went on a rant in the locker room.
“They whooped our a–, plain and simple,” Allen proclaimed.
“F— yes it does. I’m f—ing tired of this s—. I’m f—ing tired of this bulls—. It’s been seven f—ing years of the same s—,” he said, via JP Finlay of NBC Sports.

It was a different team Sunday. The Patriots led 17-10 in the third quarter, but quarterback Sam Howell surgically led back-to-back scoring drives. As hard as Mac Jones and the Patriots tried, they simply couldn’t overcome the Commanders’ defense, who overwhelmed them in the fourth quarter to pave the way to a 20-17 Washington victory.
After the game, Allen sang Howell’s praises.
“Sam Howell is our future,” Allen said. “He’s our quarterback. I feel like we found our quarterback for the next 5-10 years, and I truly believe that. When I look at the plays he makes on the field, and not only does he make great plays on the field, but his demeanor after bad plays and not playing well. He is always able to bounce back. . . . I’ve seen a lot of great quarterbacks in my time, played against a lot of them and feel he has the potential to be one of them. I can truly say this team is behind Sam Howell 100 percent.”
Howell threw an interception in the end zone to end the first half, but was 29-of-44 for 325 yards and a touchdown the rest of the game.
The rookie quarterback has been really solid this year for Washington. Besides one stinker against the Bills, Howell has played really well. Since Week 3, he has thrown for 1,800 yards, 11 touchdowns to just 4 interceptions, achieving a 95.9 passer rating and a 65.9% completion percentage.
The Commanders sit at 4-5 in the NFC East, and will have to at least split their games with the Dallas Cowboys if they want to clinch a wildcard spot.
