Joey Porter Jr. could be on the verge of a real breakout year heading into the 2024-25 NFL Season. The former Penn State product was my number one rated corner in last year’s NFL Draft. After a solid rookie season, Porter Jr. is adding muscle in an effort to get stronger.
“I’ve been hitting the weight room. A little bit, yeah,” Porter said, via Bo Marchionte of college2pro.com. “Got a little stronger over the offseason so you can see it. Yeah, feel good. I feel pretty powerful right now.”
Porter, 24 in July, was listed at 194 last year. This year he’s trying to get up to 205 by putting in work in the weight room.
“I’m really trying to play at 205 this year, so that’s what I’m shooting for,” Porter said. “I always fluctuate because of the long season. I’ll be like 198 to 200.”
Porter Jr. wasn’t perfect as a rookie but he made a strong impression that Steeler fans should be optimistic about the future. His rookie stat line consisted of 43 tackles, one interception, and 10 passes defensed. He already has the necessary length on his side. If Porter can add real play strength, he has a shot to become one of the best in the league at what he does.
Oh, and before we close… never forget that that idiot Ryan Poles decided to give away his second round (which turned into pick 33 and Porter Jr.) pick for Chase Claypool. Can someone explain why people continue to pretend that idiot Poles is smart?
