Out of all the teams that JJ Watt had a chance to play for he has made his decision official. Watt has signed a deal with the Arizona Cardinals.
The announcement was made by Adam Schefter:
After Watt was released by the Houston Texans, there was a lot of speculation that he might join forces with his brother in Pittsburgh, or join a Super Bowl contending team. But instead, he has chosen the Arizona Cardinals. This is a questionable move for his career.
For many years, the Cardinals have been the third or fourth best team in a crowded NFC West. The other three teams that have a better chance to make the playoffs.
You might be asking who Schefter’s source is, well it’s JJ Watt himself.
By joining the Arizona Cardinals, he does however reunite with a former teammate. That former teammate is DeAndre Hopkins. He was a Houston Texan from 2013- 2019. He then got traded for a second-round draft pick.
Not only will he reunite with Hopkins. He is also reuniting with Vance Joseph, who was the Texans defensive backs coach during Watts first three years. He is now the defensive coordinator for the Cardinals.
I would expect the Cardinals to make more moves on the defensive side of the ball, so that they have a shot at making the playoffs now. They already have a good offense with Kyler Murray at quarterback.
Unless the Cardinals, now want to move away from Murray and trade him for Deshaun Watson. What are their odds in the sweepstakes? I bet they increase now. Could they trade for him?
