JJ Redick Says Why He Didn’t Re-Sign With Bill Simmons – The Ringer

JJ Redick is an exploding star in the sports media world. Redick is not shy about attacking the hacks in the industry and is quickly becoming a go-to source for many searching for NBA content. It’s hard not to be fond of Redick. He is simply fantastic on TV.

Recently, Redick made an appearance on the Bussin’ With The Boys Podcast featuring Will Compton and Taylor Lewan. The Boys asked Redick why he did not re-sign with Bill Simmons / The Ringer. His answer appears rather obvious. Content creators want control over their IP. Bottom line.

It’s understandable why Redick wanted to own the IP. I mean… the name of the podcast is the JJ Redick Pod. If he doesn’t own it, then there is a problem. Of course, that’s not how it really works in sports media either. Companies are going to want to own the IP. That’s just the way it is. That baseline subscriptions or whatever is crucial for long term growth.

Let’s be honest; do you really want to put your eggs into the Bill Simmons basket anyway? That guy packed it in years ago.

I think Redick is going to be just fine without Bill Simmons and The Ringer. A lot of people have left The Ringer and have done just fine for themselves. I wish Ryen Russillo would do the same but we can’t always have nice things.

It will be curious to see what happens with the IP conversation when it’s time for that to happen with our shows. Will be interesting to see how I play it. Remains to be seen.
