LB1? That’s the question when it comes to Jihaad Campbell. Just how high should the Alabama product go in the 2025 NFL Draft? That’s what we’re here to talk about so let’s jump right into it!
NFL Draft Stock Report: Week 2, Week 3, Week 5, Week 8, Week 9, Week 11, Week 13, Week 14, ReliaQuest Bowl
Campbell, 21, was a five star recruit playing for heralded IMG Academy coming out of high school. During the 2022 cyle, Campbell was also rated as the 16th overall player in the country, number one ranked edge prospect, and third overall player in New Jersey.
The conversation with Campbell should probably start here. Once upon a time, Nick Saban essentially said that Campbell was playing the wrong position. He basically said that he needed to be a stand up linebacker rather than a pure edge rusher, which is exactly what happened once Saban retired.
If you can’t tell, Campbell was a big focus in the stock notes for that very reason. By the way, he’s damn good at rushing the passer. Five sacks while playing middle linebacker is damn impressive. Now, they still asked him to blitz a fair amount given the skillset he has but it tells part of the story here. It’s mini elements of Micah Parsons.
Campbell is an early declare and didn’t really factor into things his first year. 2023 he was still kinda figuring things out but 2024 is when the pop happened. This past season included First-team All-SEC honors, leading the team with 119 tackles, 11.5 TFLs, an interception, and we already went over the sacks.
Not that this is surprising, but the Combine performance was really good here too. Really nice feet with 4.52 speed works for me. Also did well using his hands in the bag drills. Campbell sure looks like a nice chess piece to get your hands on. He also checks in at 6-foot-3, 235, and is really put together. The talent is pretty obvious here. It’s a matter of what does the actual high end ceiling look like, and honestly… It’s kinda scary in a good way.
I have a late first / early second round grade on Jihaad Campbell. He has a chance to become one of the better linebackers in the league, but still needs to grow into his skill set. We saw a ton of positive flashes this past year, and the athletic profile is undeniable.
