What I’m about to tell you is somehow not a joke. The only reason it’s believable is because it’s the Jets and you simply cannot make up how stupid they are. You may want to sit down because this story is classic Jets. It turns out that Woody Johnson vetoed a potential trade that would have brought Jerry Jeudy to New York because his Madden rating was too low.
The Athletic’s Zack Rosenblatt, Dianna Russini and Michael Silver (this post is behind a paywall at The Athletic. We here at Vendetta Sports Media do not support those trash publications. We view it as not constitutional to restrict access to information. Do not click the link. I will tell you everything you need to know from this story. I’m just required to list the source) had the story.
“[Then-Jets general manager Joe] Douglas and his Broncos counterpart, George Paton, were deep in negotiations for a trade that would have sent Jeudy to the Jets and given future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers another potential playmaker,” the report reads. “The Broncos felt a deal was near. Then, abruptly, it all fell apart. In Denver’s executive offices, they couldn’t believe the reason why.
“Douglas told the Broncos that Johnson didn’t want to make the trade because the owner felt Jeudy’s player rating in ‘Madden NFL,’ the popular video game, wasn’t high enough, according to multiple league sources. The Broncos ultimately traded the receiver to the Cleveland Browns. Last Sunday, Jeudy crossed the 1,000-yard receiving mark for the first time in his career.”
In fairness to Woody (which there is none. It’s been established that he’s a total idiot) Jeudy had his fair share of haters prior to the trade that got nixed. Mark Schlereth couldn’t wait to get him out of Denver. Steve Smith has also been a notorious hater. Also, even if the Jets traded for Jeudy, they still would have sucked this year. That part wasn’t going to change with or without this trade.
Look, you don’t need me to tell you that NFL teams shouldn’t operate based on Madden ratings. Apparently, it’s not the only time this has happened. Inside that trash bag Athletic piece, it also states Woody tried to veto John Simpson because he had a low awareness rating. It should just be a reminder to you the viewer how incompetent some of these teams are.
Jeudy, 25, has had a career season with Cleveland after the Browns acquired via trade. Cleveland parted with 5th and 6th round picks in the deal and the former Alabama product has produced. Jeudy has notched 70 receptions for 1,052 yards and four touchdowns this season. Oh, and his Madden rating has gone up from an 81 at the start of the year to an 83 for anyone who actually cares about that part of the equation.
