I won’t even try to hide it. I was extremely high on Tank Bigsby coming out of Auburn last year. I’m about to share some thoughts from the running back coach in Jacksonville (Jerry Mack) but let’s just lowkey admit here that the speed of the NFL game was overwhelming for Tank last year.
What are we getting from Tank in year 2? That’s the billion dollar question. Especially because if he’s going to go ahead and bust, I want him to let me know so I can move on in fantasy. The positive note here is that Mack claims Bigsby is progressing at an encouraging level.
“Just a refocus. I think he understood last year, being new to the National Football League, everything was extremely fast for him,” Mack said when asked about Bigsby’s growth this offseason. “I think now things are starting to slow down for him. He understands his role in this offense. He’s understanding the ins and outs of the offense a lot better as well.”
Mack also admits that confidence was an issue. Tank got off to a bad start and then it snowballed from there. So far so good heading into year two.
“I think when you first start, it’s about confidence. And I think he lacked some of the confidence because of the struggles that he had last year,” Mack said. “He came in this offseason with a revitalized type of attitude and his mindset is totally different. He wants to be great. He wants to be successful.”
“He [had] an opportunity to kind of sit back last year, see exactly what this league is all about,” Mack said. “And he’s been great so far this offseason, just the way he’s attacked every single day.”
Bigsby, 22, played 141 offensive snaps last year. The 2023 third round pick rushed for 132 yards and two touchdowns on 50 attempts as a rookie.
That really didn’t tell the full story of last year. It was more so an NFL follies on repeat.
Let’s all light some prayer candles here because Bigsby has the talent. Hopefully, he has the mental fortitude to battle through and become the player he should be.
