Jerry Jones: Jonathon Brooks ‘High, High, High’ On Draft Board

With the departure of Tony Pollard in free agency, there is a massive hole at running back for the Dallas Cowboys. Unfortunately for them, they were not aggressive in free agency themselves to bring in someone and this class in the 2024 NFL Draft is the weakest among all groups. However, it sounds like Jerry Jones has a plan for day two of the draft, and Texas RB Jonathon Brooks is the focal point potentially.

Full quote via PFT via nbcsports.com:

“In my 30 years I thought it was the best interview that I ever interviewed with a player,” Jones said, via Todd Archer of ESPN.com. “He’s outstanding. And he’s a great football player. We got him high, high, high. And he’s a good player.”

For what it’s worth, I will link Trey’s running back rankings here for you to see, but it isn’t pretty in regards to Jonathon Brooks. Jerry Jones has not been bad in the NFL Draft in recent years, but spending a day-two pick on a running back from this year’s class would be a huge mistake. I personally don’t have Brooks as low on my rankings, but he still isn’t worth that kind of capital. I’m not sure any running back in this class is.

It’s no secret that this class is not good. But man if Jerry Jones decides to pull the trigger on Jonathon Brooks tonight, it might not be pretty. Dallas did a good job in round one, trading back to get more picks and still landing an offensive tackle (just not the one I would’ve chosen) but all that can be done away with if Jones turns in the card for Brooks tonight, specifically in round two. We will have to tune in tonight and find out.
